Welcome to a slightly different blog… From now on Ali will be writing a purely climbing blog and I’ll be covering the “other stuff”. So if you want the beta on his latest crushes click HERE, or read on for the more fluffy stuff from our travels and non climbing life...

Canada - Vancouver Island

We didn't spend much time on the main Island, heading straight north to Quadra Island for our kayaking trip. But we did drive through some amazing ancient forests and spend a lovely few days with some of Ali's relatives in Victoria who very kindly put us up and took us fishing - an awesome few days!

Big trees in Cathedral Grove Forest...

Even bigger tree!

Room for two in this one!

Victoria City - posing in front of the super posh Empress Hotel

Victoria Harbour - home to seaplanes and minicab boats!

Cuddly bear :-) Saw the real thing later in the trip!

Brian's boat all hooked up and ready to go!

Vroom vroom! Motoring out to sea!

Ali gets a crash course in deep sea fishing. This involves canon balls, coho killers and downriggers... I stuck to photography and supervision

A bite!!!!

Fish number one successfully in and clobbered

A change of bait to sardines lures another two in!

We got a bit seasick towards the end, but it was worth it. Great fun.

The day's catch - three coho salmon

The yucky messy bit...

Filleting...

Add a touch of marinade and onto the BBQ :-) Sea to plate in less than 6 hours

Soup with belly meat - super nice!

On the ferry back to the mainland and the Rockies!
